Unsolicited commercial email is commonly referred to as spam. If you’ve ever had your email on a spam list, then you know how annoying it is to have to wade through dozens of advertisements to get to the mail you want to read. Even though anti spam laws have been put in place, people who send spam will most likely not adhere to the laws and since they are not going away any time soon, you need to use a good filter to lessen the amount in your in box.
How Spammers Get Your Email Address
Spammers have sophisticated software that crawls the web looking for email addresses. If you have posted your email anywhere on the web, this could be how it got out to spammers. Spammers have robots that crawl the web looking for anything in the form of an email address, so if you have a web site with your email listed on it or you are published in any kind of directory or listed on a site, your email is sure to get on a mailing list. Unfortunately, once you are on these lists, not even a spam bully tool can erase your email from these lists.
How Spam Can Be More Than Just An Annoyance
You need a spam bully tool to filter spam, but you should also have a good antivirus tool as well. Spam emails can be infected, so clicking on them can open your computer up to a virus. According to estimates, 95% of all viruses spread through email. Typically, a virus will spread by infecting a computer and then mailing itself out to everyone on the address list. Some other viruses can even open a “back door” on your computer which spammers then use to send out more junk mail.
